WEF Survey: Green Solutions can save GDP at risk due to Nature’s Loss

Although cities contribution to the global economy is 80%, they also contribute three-fourths of greenhouse gas emissions. A new WEF study released on Monday 17 January 2022, showed that US$31 trillion GDP (almost half of the world’s cities) is vulnerable because of the disruptions from nature’s loss.

The online Davos Agenda 2022 summit’s WEF report warned that, if not protected and brought natural habitats back into the urban environment, the GDP loss will continue.

The good news according to the report is regarding green (nature-based) solutions for infrastructure, which are 50% economical to the alternatives, and provides 28% greater value add in regards to productivity, and also can create 60 million new jobs by 2030, if invested substantially in.
