Yesterday, on Monday, Spirit Airlines announced that the cancellation of more than 2,800 flights over an 11-day period this summer, cost the budget airline around $50 million in lost revenue and caused expenses to skyrocket.
According to the airline, the service collapse began in late July and an increase in Covid-19 instances, generating more last-minute cancellations and weaker reservations. Spirit Airlines has announced that it would cut flights for the remainder of the fiscal quarter, which ends on September 30.
From July 30 to August 9, Spirit canceled 2,826 flights due to overlapping difficulties like poor weather, airport personnel shortages, and employees being stuck far from their scheduled flights.
