The Sony group’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Sony Corporation of America (SCA), has established a new space company called Sony Space Communications (SSC). The new unit is founded to carry out space optical communications.

The company plans to develop small optical communications devices to provide services related to connecting microsatellites in low earth orbit (LEO) via a laser beam. The unit will be offering this optical communications equipment as a service to firms that are working on satellite development.

The space lasers built by SSC will enable high-speed communications from anywhere on the ground to any satellite in space.
