Below are the highlights of the interview:

Please give us a brief overview of Avnan, its mission, and the critical aspects of its strong grab in the manufacturing industry.

Avnan is a Canadian-based electronics product design and global manufacturing company whose mission is to help OEMs bring their innovative product design ideas to fruition from concept and prototyping to manufacturing and supply chain.

With our team of experienced experts in engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain, we can provide the proper support to our clients at any stage of their product development process. Whether we are an extension of an in-house team or a value-added full-scope solution, we are committed to ensuring our clients’ success.

With our knowledge and decades of experience, we are well-positioned to help our clients leverage new opportunities in AI and IoT technology that are used in products that improve the quality of their lives.

Kindly brief us about the featured person(s) and their journey until now.

Avnan is a family-owned and operated business based in Canada. Anuj Jain is the son of the founder, who started the company in 1986 and was first exposed to the company, working part-time while finishing his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Waterloo. Anuj worked as a co-op student for six terms at various companies, with his last co-op term assigned at Avnan.

When he first joined, the company was small, with a team of about 7 – 8 people. He had his hand in all the business areas, including design, sourcing, and manufacturing. He was seeking an opportunity to collaborate with a team, create and pitch solutions to clients and drive business growth. At Avnan, he had this opportunity. So, after graduating, he joined Avnan full-time, taking a leadership role in growing and scaling the business.

From 1999 to 2010, Anuj and his brother ran the company growing its market base in Canada and then expanding its operation abroad in Asia starting in 2005. In 2010, (brother’s name) exited the company. From 2011 to the present day, Anuj has been the company’s sole CEO, growing its revenue, operations, and staff.

Describe your offerings that attend to the need of your customers.

Our customers operate in highly competitive industries and are price sensitive, so we use every bit of savings we can offer to help them to retain their market position.

Avnan’s core competency is to identify and optimize the design and manufacturing of products so their customers can be more competitive in their market. We take low-value components and provide cost-effective manufacturing options that help our clients maximize profits without compromising quality and product performance.

Electronics is a highly specialized field that requires insight, experience, and knowledge to be successful. Avnan has the bandwidth to manage all aspects of this product development cycle and knows what part of the process is offshored and restored, producing the right mix of cost savings without losing high-value manufacturing opportunities at home.

What makes Avnan a preferred choice among your clientele over other competitors?

Unlike many competitors in our field, we offer a concierge level of service. This means understanding and listening intently to our customer’s needs, providing the right solution at the right time within their budget, and ultimately helping to fill their gaps. We are creative problem solvers, proactive project managers, customer-centric, and committed to service excellence. We are known to provide foresight and not hindsight planning – forecasting and anticipating potential challenges to ensure we manage our client’s expectations well and provide a positive experience.

How is Avnan enhancing the customer experience?

Avnan takes the time to understand and uncover known and unknown needs through a discovery process. We first model and draft the design ideas and provide alternatives based on time, resources, and budget. We mitigate potential issues by ensuring we touch base with our clients often and address their concerns. From supply chain and logistics to inventory management, we forecast potential options under various scenarios so our clients can plan realistically. At a minimum, we deliver what we promise and are always mindful of ensuring no surprises despite some factors beyond our control. The client relationship is our priority.

In your opinion, what are the challenges that your company is currently facing? And how are you strategizing your company’s operations to resolve them?

Most recently, we faced supply chain challenges like everyone else in our industry. There was high demand and low supply due to supply chain kinks from the pandemic. We resolved this by offering design alternatives that didn’t require components or manufacturing that were affected by the supply chain issues.

Many of us troubleshoot by ordering more supplies to ensure we can meet future demand and get ahead of the long lead times due to the supply chain, but now we are faced with an overstock of certain supplies.

In addition, the demand side is affected by rising interest rates and, consequently, inflation. Demand from our client’s end users and the declining real estate and construction industry market affect our business across all segments, including HVAC, heat pump, and fresh air systems.

We manage this by adjusting our forecast, identifying opportunities, and pivoting the business in areas where there is growth during these challenging and unpredictable times.

What are your future aspirations? Where do you see Avnan in the upcoming years?

In the upcoming and subsequent years, we expect to grow organically and through acquisitions of adjacent and complementary businesses in the electronics manufacturing service market (EMS). Our parallel path is also to continually improve and optimize our existing business by growing and delivering best-in-class full-service solutions to our clients and finding new ways to tap into the latest technology to automate aspects of our operations using AI technology to automate and interact in real-time, helping us to lower our operational costs and passing on these savings so can maintain our competitive position.

We also aspire to take the proper steps to ensure we run a sustainable operation that reduces our carbon footprint while helping eco-minded businesses build sustainable technology solutions for consumers.

We are positioned for solid growth and welcome the opportunity to build innovative solutions that move our industries in the right direction. For example, building upon the growing demand for improving air quality during the pandemic, we have been instrumental in providing engineering solutions to OEMs that develop indoor air quality products.

We have the capabilities, core competency, and bandwidth to take advantage of the opportunities that AI and IoT technology brings across new segments like EV technology, and we have the future aspiration to build an electronics marketplace that aggregates all services involved in electronics product development, from contract manufacturing to end-of-life management, like electronics recycling.
