Amazon Plans to Sublease Warehouses as Online Shopping Slows

The e-commerce giant Amazon is planning to sublease its US warehouse spaces owing to the slowing down of online shopping. The online shopping trend saw a dramatic rise in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

As restrictions loosen and physical stores open, online shopping has decreased. Amazon’s spokesperson, Alisa Carroll, said, “Subleasing will allow the company to relieve the financial obligations associated with an existing warehouse building that no longer meets its needs.”

The company has not disclosed how much space it is planning to sublet. Amazon doubled the size of its operations during the last two years. It had added more warehouses and workers as online shopping had gone up due to lockdowns and other restrictions.
